Mohammad Nabi, the Afghanistan allrounder, has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council for breaching the code of conduct during the fourth One-Day International against Ireland in Belfast on Sunday (July 17).
Nabi, 31, was found to have violated a code that relates to 'conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game'.
The incident occurred during the sixth over of Ireland’s chase when Ed Joyce was controversially run out for 12. Joyce had driven the ball to deep extra cover where Nabi claimed he had kept ball in play with a diving stop, although photographic evidence later suggested Nabi was outside the boundary while in contact with the ball.
Joyce assumed the ball had gone beyond the rope and ended up being run out, following which Ireland collapsed to a 79-run loss chasing 230.
Barry Chambers, Ireland's media manager, took to twitter to voice his disappointment after the incident.
The charge was laid by Alan Neill and C Shamshuddin, the on-field umpires, as well as Royl Black, third umpire. Nabi admitted the offence and accepted the penalty, leaving no need for a hearing.
