iOS users will finally be able to shrug (¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) easily using an emoji. Apple has released the developer preview of iOS 10.2 that will feature over 70 new emojis including Shrug and Fingers Crossed for the first time. The developer preview version adds full Unicode 9 emoji support which includes emojis that were approved in June this year. As part of Apple’s plans of adding more racially and gender diverse emojis, the new emoji keyboard is set to bring in emojis with both genders and all skin tones.

Other than the anticipated shrug emoji and other popular additions like ‘fox face’, avocado, and owl, the iOS 10.2 developer beta will also include new emoji professions with racial and gender diversity including roles such as firefighter and judge. A total of 16 new professions will be added to the emoji keyboard in both genders and all six skin tone options. This takes the list of jobs to 192 distinct images. There are also a host of new animal emojis which are included in iOS 10.2 such as fox, duck, squid, and gorilla.

Earlier this August, Apple announced a number of changes to its emojis which included more representation of women in different professions, single-parent families, a pride flag, and the much-discussed pistol emoji. In wake of the gun violence in the US, Apple replaced the pistol emoji with a bright green water squirt gun in iOS 10. While some welcomed the move, others called it pointless because there is no backward-compatibility and the emoji still showed as a metal gun on other platforms.

In the new iOS 10.2 update, Apple has slightly tweaked the appearance of all remaining emojis. The emojis are now more bulbous with sharper details which make them appear more 3D-like and cohesive in design. Although it is unclear when the public version of iOS 10.2 will be rolled out, the developer preview is available for download through a software update for those who are using a developer certificate or through the Apple Developer Center.

Apple is also introducing a range of new features with the iOS update which include three new wallpapers, a new widget for the Videos app, a Preserve Camera setting, new ‘Press and Hold to Speak’ menu under the Home Button Accessibility settings, new ‘Celebration’ screen effect for the Messages app, new ‘Show Star Ratings’ option for the Music app, and a new headphone icon in the status bar for Bluetooth audio devices.

As reported by Forbes, the new Videos widget shows videos from the camera roll in the Lock Screen while the ‘Preserve Camera’ setting has a number of sub-options. Users can preserve the last mode such as Video or Square rather than having the camera app launch in Photo mode by default. The same can be done for filters. For example, if you like capturing in Chrome, you will be able to preserve the Chrome filter setting. You can further preserve the Live Photo setting rather than having the camera automatically reset to Live Photo.

The new ‘Press and Hold to Speak’ feature under the Home Button Accessibility setting allows one to choose between Siri, Voice Control, and Off. The new ‘Show Star Rating’ feature under the Music menu allows the user to access star ratings from the action sheets for songs and it doesn’t affect the ‘For You’ recommendations.

Here is a full list of the new emojis which will debut with iOS 10.2:
