It has been two years since Apple last launched an iPad Air, and recent rumours suggest that a new one might be coming this October. People who wanted to purchase an updated iPad Air were left disappointed in 2015 as Apple decided to launch a new version of the smaller iPad Mini 4 and the much larger iPad Pro (12.9-inch), which the company has since shrunk down to feature another offering with a 9.7-inch display.
According to Macworld UK, we can expect an Apple iPad Air 3 to be announced this year. Several people expect to the launch of the new iPad in September, along with the iPhone 7. At the moment it still remains unknown if Apple is actually planning on releasing an iPad Air 3, but it is likely that it will announce a new line of iPad’s this fall. Rumours around the iPad Air 3 remain as rife as ever, with one particular one suggesting that the new iPad might feature a digital crown like the Apple Watch.
It is also expected to be thinner than the previous generation. Other rumours include the introduction of a Smart Connector, that will allow users to connect to devices like the Apple keyboard and pen. The iPad Air 3 design is also rumoured to feature 7000-series aluminium like the iPhone 6S/6S Plus, which will make it much tougher than its predecessor. The new iPad might come in four colours that have been well known with Apple’s mobile lineup – Space Grey, Rose Gold, Gold and Silver.

Apple iPad Air 3 is also rumoured to pick up a few things in the hardware department from the iPad Pro, including the A9X chip and rear-facing LED flash. It now remains to be seen if Apple really has done away with the Air series for good, or will the iPad Air 3 rumours come to fruition.
