Apple’s iOS 10 will roll out for users this fall. The new OS brings with it a host of new features including more functional design, better notifications panel and most importantly, a whole different iMessage experience. Now, Apple has announced more than a hundred new and redesigned emojis, which will be available to iPhone and iPad users this fall with iOS 10. “This exciting update brings more gender options to existing characters, including new female athletes and professionals, adds beautiful redesigns of popular emoji, a new rainbow flag and more family options,” Apple said.

The new emojis introduced by Apple are similar to the Unicode 9.0 emojis released by the Unicode Consortium recently. Apple says it is working with the Unicode Consortium to make sure the popular emoji characters reflect the diversity of people everywhere. The Cupertino giant removed the pistol emoji as seen in earlier versions, after protests against the same in the US. The pistol emoji, however, has been replaced by a water gun emoji.

Apple gave a glimpse of what the company has in store for its users. There’s mother and son emoji; a father with two kids emoji and a rainbow flag. Women in diverse roles include a woman detective, athlete, weight lifter, swimmer, surfer and more. Users will also be able to change skin tone of human emojis.

Unicode recently rolled out a set of 72 new emojis and Twitter was the first to launch the same on its platform. The Unicode 9.0 new emojis include facepalm, selfie, shrug and pregnant woman. Other interesting emojis include ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing), drooling face, clown face and lying face. The lying faces have growing nose over them.

Google added a new series of emojis celebrating gender and ethnic diversity. The emojis depict women in different professional roles. Thirty-three of the existing emojis in different careers will get female versions as well. For example, you will be able to use a male or a female swimmer emoji.
