Amit Shah elected Gujarat Cricket Association president
Former Gujarat Home Minister and senior BJP leader, Amit Shah was elected president of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). Shah, considered a trusted aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was previously the vice-president of the GCA.
"Amit Shah, who was the vice-president of the GCA, was elected unopposed today as the president of the association," another GCA vice-president and Rajya Sabha MP, Parimal Nathwani said.
After becoming the 15th Prime Minister of India, Modi had stepped down as president of the GCA on May 30 and the cricket association had called for a special general meeting on June 13 to elect a new president.
Prime Minister Modi had taken over the reigns of GCA, replacing the then Congress leader Narhari Amin on September 15, 2009. Shah, the former Gujarat minister of state for home affairs, was elected GCA vice president in the same year.
Shah, who has also attended Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) annual general meetings in the past, is likely to be elected as a BCCI vice-president during the Indian cricket board's elections this September.
