Amazon MX Player acquisition hit a roadblock

“The talks have been on for a while," said the person. “Earlier, Times Internet was asking for over $100 million for MX Player, while Amazon’s internal team valued it at around ₹500 crore ($60 million). The deal is likely to be in the range of ₹600-900 crore."

After multiple rounds of talks, Amazon India is believed to have acquired the OTT platform MX Player from Times Internet (TIL) by shelling out substantially less money than the last acquisition price.

The marked-down price is not known but it could be around USD 45-50 million, which is between Rs 350-Rs 400 crore.

If they acquire MX then they will keep that library free to stream on the new Amazon TV app and the premium content will be unlocked on subscription to Amazon prime. Much like the Freemium model adopted by Disney+ Hotstar, Zee5, Sony LIV etc.

I hope they will improve the app as well as stop the random appearance of ads.

It depends on the strategy they adopt. Whether they keep MX as a standalone app or integrate the content into Amazon TV. If they integrate then the UI will be same as Amazon prime video. As for the ads, the free content will have to serve ads which can only be removed with the prime subscription.

Yes even if they remove ads for prime subscribers it would be sufficient for someone like me.

After what happened during Tandaav which put fear inside streaming industry. It's a safe bet to delete some shows like Aashram. Even other inappropriate MX shows needs to be sacked. Remember they haven't invited likes of Alt Balaji or Ullu for one of their Prime Channels.

No point of acquisition. If they aren't going for the app.

Aashram is MX's flagship original, it is the show with the highest viewership, no chance of it being scrapped. Also it's a work of fiction, they aren't calling it based on any person dead or alive.
