Amateur International Boxing Association Lifts Provisional Ban on India, Approves New Body Called Boxing India
The Amateur International Boxing Association has lifted the provisional ban on India and recognized a new body called Boxing India. India (Indian Boxing Federation) were under suspension since December 2012 for failing to elect a proper set of office-bearers.
According to a press release, the AIBA Executive Committee has decided to entrust the governance of boxing in India to those "who recognize its potential and have the administrative and operational capabilities to further develop the boxing ecosystem."
The release claims that the AIBA was impressed by a presentation made to its Executive Committee on Boxing India: Bout Outside The Ring. The presentation was led by Sandeep Jajodia of Monnet Ispat Ltd, the primary sponsors of Indian boxing. Among others who represented India were Udit Sheth of World Series Boxing and Jay Kowli, the president of Maharashtra Boxing Association. Kowli is also an international referee and judge.
"It is an honour that AIBA appreciated the proposal put forth by us. We will support the principles of AIBA in terms of ethics and fairness and work within the framework to further enhance various boxing programs in the country. We look forward to forming a new federation by holding free and fair elections and adopting the new constitution" said Jajodia in a statement.
India's representative at the AIBA, Kishen Narsi, said: "The news is very heartening for all the stakeholders of boxing. I look forward to an early formation of a new boxing federation duly supported by IOA and recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports".
