With Bharti Airtel’s 85 installation sites in Nigeria having already been damaged by terror attacks and floods, there is concern within telecom industry about the dipping revenues.
According to analysts Airtel, MTN, Etisalat, Globalcom and CDMAs could earn $ 11 billion in 2013. Previously this figure was $ 8.6 billion, according to Business Day Online.
According to the experts, the revenues of these operators could be affected due to continuing terror attacks and floods.
Airtel Nigeria's Director of Regulatory Affairs and Special Projects Osondu Nwokoro in Lagos said that these attacks and floods have affected operations of 234 sites across the regions in Africa. 32 sites were damaged by floods, affecting operations of 41 sites across the region, he said.
“53 installation sites were impacted by terror attacks, hitting operations in 193 sites across the Northern part of Nigeria” he said.
Nwokoro said that all telecom equipments should be declared as critical national infrastructure in the country by the country.
