In order to provide a much-needed impetus to its 4G subscriber base in the country, Bharti Airtel has started offering free 4G dongles under its new ‘breakfree’ plans, which the company is offering for first 60 days as an introductory offer.
The aggressive move from Airtel is aimed towards solidifying its overall 4G subscriber base, ahead of 4G roll-outs from pan-India BWA license holder Relinace Jio infocomm. There are speculations in the market that Reliance Jio Infocomm will disrupt the market with its aggressive 4G pricing, whenever it launches its networks in the country.
With this new offer, the company wants to shift its subscriber base using 3G services via dongles to its 4G network.
The new offer of providing free 4G dongles is in line with the company’s earlier move to lower down 4G data charges by 31 percent across all licensed circles. The company introduced all new plans for its 4G services in Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune and Chandigarh. (See: Bharti Airtel Offers 4G at 3G Prices)
The company’s 4G and 3G plans carry same pricing in the country. Starting from monthly rent of Rs 450, Airtel then said that these new Airtel 4G plans will encourage more and more customers to enjoy superfast 4G speeds.
Very recently, Bharti Airtel acquired an additional 2 percent stake in all the four India BWA entities of Qualcomm, taking controlling stake to 51 percent. The increase in stake in Qualcomm AP’s India entities will now enable Bharti Airtel to roll-out 4G networks in Delhi and Mumbai in a month or so. (See: Airtel Raises Stake In Qualcomm's 4G Venture)
Qualcomm AP’s India entities hold BWA licences in Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala.
