NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel said it recently organized an awareness drive to sensitize its network of retailers and distributors on compliance guidelines for new activations.

The workshop was conducted in association with the TERM Cell (NCR) and the Department Of Telecommunications (DoT) to ensure highest standards of DoT guidelines by its retail partners, the telco said.

Airtel said that the session educated the distributors on correct measures for customer verification and documentation as prescribed by the Government.

Retailers and distributors were sensitized on the important role they play in ensuring any potential misuse of mobile connections. The need for them to be well informed about the DoT guidelines and being more vigilant during documentation for new activations were also restated.

Sameer Chug, Director - Legal & Regulatory Affairs (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel said, “As a responsible corporate, compliance of all requisite guidelines laid down by the Government is of utmost importance to us. We ensure that thorough customer verification at the time of new activation is an undisputed mandate adherence by our distribution partners. In line with this, we have already deployed Aadhar based eKYC verification, which is not only faster but also efficient. With this drive, we plan to help our retailers and distributors to ensure full compliance with all the norms during the documentation process.”

The session was Chaired by Sh. Ram Narain, Senior Dy. Director General (TERM), Deptt. Of Telecommunication. Also present was N K Chhoker, DDG, TERM Cell Delhi along with Airtel officials.

Vodafone India and Idea Cellular had earlier conducted similar programmes for their retailers in various circles, aimed at educating retailers on the correct documentation process and its importance in curbing SIM card fraud.
