Aircel launches 4G service in Andhra, Assam, Bihar, Odisha

Telecom operator Aircel today launched its 4G services across four areas - Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Assam and Odisha.

"The wireless broadband services offered will help customers transform their workplaces and homes into 'smarter' entities," Aircel Chief Marketing Officer Anupam Vasudev said in a statement.

Aircel holds 20 MHz of spectrum in the 2300 MHz band, called broadband wireless access spectrum, across eight circles - Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Assam and North East and Jammu and Kashmir.

This spectrum can be used for 4G service. Aircel is second company in India , after Airtel, to launch 4G service using LTE technology.

Other holders of this spectrum include Reliance Jio Infocomm, Tikona Digital and Augere who are yet to start their service.

As per the rules, 2015 is last year for all companies who won BWA spectrum to roll out the services in at least 90 per cent of the service areas failing which the Department of Telecom will have the right to withdraw the radiowaves.

The licensee will have to ensure that at least half the areas under rural telecom exchanges gets the required street level coverage.

Good as well as bad news for users. Why don't they use 1800 or 900 Mhz band under unified license ?
