MUMBAI: In a major move, All India Radio (AIR) has pulled its 37 Gyanvani educational FM stations off air which act as a learning tool
for the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

The reason for pulling the stations off air is non-payment of dues by the university, stated an AIR official on condition of anonymity.

The AIR official told TelevisionPost.com, “There is a certain payment our transmitter receives for airing these educational shows.

But we haven’t received any payment for a number of months, so we were left with no choice but to shut them down.”

Stating that educational broadcast too needs funds to run, AIR additional director general sent an official mail to IGNOU vice chancellor professor M Aslam stating that all Gyanvani channels will be closed following non payment of the dues.

Actually If Air did not stopped GyanVani's programme, it will automatically go off air. Because these stations were run by IGNOU's grant. And IGNOU did not give them grant from February. So the people involving with GyanVani did not get any Paisa from April. The Telecom company cut their line due to non payments of their bill. The power companies also serve notice these stations due to non payments of bill. So if AIR gives connections, many GyanVanis can not make programme, Because there is no electricity,

So the people involving with GyanVani did not get any Paisa from April.these poor qualified people get just Rs 450/- per shift , If we just compare the wage rate, AIR gives 1300 rupees per shift. A mason or a carpenter earns more than these educated people. The Telecom company cut their line due to non payments of their bill. The power companies also serve notice these stations due to non payments of bill. So if AIR gives connections, many GyanVanis can not make programme, Because there is no electricity,
