What is the closest time to 12 ᴀᴍ when we could turn off mobile data, so that Airtel doesn't charge it from the next day's quota of daily data?

I'm using the 299 plan (1.5GB/day). I turned off my mobile data at 11.58 ᴘᴍ yesterday. Then when I turned it back on after 2.30 ᴀᴍ today and checked the data usage on airtel.in, it had already gone down to 1.2GB.

So I'm pretty sure that airtel is erroneously deducting the previous day's data usage from the next day's data quota. I guess this could be because data usage after 11 ᴘᴍ reaches Airtel's servers may be only after an hour or two later?

Has this happened to you? What could be a safe time to turn off mobile data so that airtel won't deduct it from the next day's data quota?

Never faced this issue in Jio, Jio update new data post 12 like 12:16 and so on they mention it in MyJio app when your data renews.
Airtel must follow the same.

The updation (daily quota renewal) of data itself happens on airtel exactly at 12 ᴀᴍ. I have seen on the website that the data resets back to 1.5GB every night at 12. But the problem appears to be that they are deducting the previous day's data usage (before 12 ᴀᴍ usage) from the current day's data quota (in my case, out of the 1.5GB that gets activated after 12 ᴀᴍ).

That's what I'm saying Jio reset complete data without deduction at one perticular time.

So you are saying that they are deducting the data from next day's quota even though they already deducted it from the previous day? It's that fraud?

Isn't Airtel a well known fraud already ? I wonder What is new here in this case ?

They said, "Unlimited 5G" (as their competitor is giving, they are forced to give - not to give benefit to customers). First thing is, For them UnLimited = 300GB. Second thing is, even though your phone is showing 5G, your data will be deducted from 4G daily data limit. They will say it is NSA tech which uses both 4G & 5G combined. Blah Blah Blah. But consumer will never know which data is getting used.

This is just Airtel being Airtel. No surprises here, imho.

Yeah. It was really weird for me too. I once asked my friend's phone (Samsung) to watch a video. He said to me "Wait, it's not unlimited now." I said "What do you mean? There's 5G symbol on top." Then he told me that "There are two types of 5G symbol. This one means it's not unlimited. When it changes to the other one, it will become unlimited." This was really surprising to me.

I did not necessarily mean a double deduction (as in both from previous & current day's quotas). Since the quota gets reset after 12 ᴀᴍ, it's hard to know if they are also deducting the 11 ᴘᴍ to 11.59 ᴘᴍ usage from the previous day's quota or not. Because data usage gets updated on the airtel website (or the My Airtel app) pretty late after the actual usage (1 or 2 hours later). This happens even during the day time. For example, my quota would stay on the website/app at 1.3GB during continuous usage, sometimes for even for a couple of hours. Then suddenly it would get updated to 1.1GB out of nowhere. This is what led me to the conclusion that their quota deduction speed was out of order.

Like others have pointed out, may be this is by design & airtel wants us to stay in a confused state about the exact amount of data that we have consumed from our daily quota 🤷‍♀️

Exactly. "Transparency" is the thing that will always be totally missing in Airtel's policies.

The problem with 5G is even a simple speedtest is enough to kill 1.5GB to 2GB of data allowance. So it is not advisable to use 5G if there is no UL data allowance, imho. By using the above 2 tactics (one informed by me in second point & one by @Sivabhaskar bro), Airtel users are indirectly forced by Airtel to use less data on their network (incl avoid doing speedtests to check if net is working good in a particular area) and hence they can upgrade their network sites as slowly as possible.
