Rovio Launching 'Bad Piggies', A Sequel To Angry Birds, On September 27th

This little piggy had some great success. This little piggy had none. This little piggy, however, has us wondering what's going on all the way home. Rovio announced today that, in a few weeks, we'll be seeing a sequel to Angry Birds arrive on the Play Store. Instead of being built from the ground up this time (or, rather, being bought from the ground up), this one will feature the mild-mannered pigs that you've spent so much time destroying. Now you'll get the chance to empathize with them!

We haven't seen any images or videos of actual game play yet, but according to tweets from @BadPiggies, the official Twitter account for the new game, it should be very different from Angry Birds.

So, that's something. Hopefully this game will be as engaging as the original was. Angry Birds made a lot of money and became the icon for mobile gaming developers with fun, bite-sized gameplay. However, after a lengthy period of waiting, Rovio's newest game was a bit lackluster. It sold enough (somewhere between 100k and 500k copies, according to the Play Store), but was nowhere near the same runaway success. Perhaps tying this new time-waster to a familiar face will give it the marketing power it needs.
If history is any indication, we can probably expect there will be a limited free version, a $0.99 paid version, and an inexplicable $2.99 version. This is, of course, just speculation, but we'll see.

Rovio Entertainment, the creators of "Angry Birds", will launch its new game "Bad Piggies" on September 27 for iOS, Android and Mac.

"There's a lot of empathy towards the lovable enemies from the 'Angry Birds' games, and we've been constantly asked: what about the pigs' side of the story?" said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio. "Bad Piggies gives you the chance to play as the second-most-loved characters in the "Angry Birds" universe, and explore this rich world through their green eyes."

The new game will be launched on iOS, Android and Mac on September 27, followed by Windows Phone, Windows 8 and PC versions.

"We've had a lot of fun creating a totally new and unique gameplay experience," said Petri Jarvilehto, EVP Games at Rovio. "There's so much more to these pigs than what is seen in the Angry Birds games, and Bad Piggies is the first glimpse into what's going on in the imaginative and ingenious minds of the pigs."
