The display wars are on and looks like they won't be ending anytime soon. While bendable and curved screens seem to be the latest craze, improved pixel count and density are also concern areas which phone-makers are tackling

Samsung is often the pioneer of new display technologies be it the bendable, flexible Youm display or the 2K screen to reportedly debut with the Samsung Galaxy S5 this year at MWC. So it comes as no surprise that the jump to 4K for smartphones will be made by Samsung too. And looks like the move is not far off. It will be in 2015 that Samsung plans to announce smartphones with a 4K display.

Samsung announced their decision to introduce 4K display screens in 2015 at the Semiconductor and Display Technology Roadmap Seminar 2014 in South Korea.

Currently, there are a variety of displays that smartphones boast of. From Fluuy HD to FHD to IPS display, we have them all. However, the highest resolution display or the fully HD displays with a resolution of 1080p. 2K will now offer 2560 x 1440 pixels, two times that of a regular HD screen. Similarly, 4K displays will offer 4 times the pixel count and clarity.

Improved displays mean better reading and better clarity. Also, they are a lesser strain to the eye. Since smartphones are slowly replacing everyday objects, a better screen just means a better experience.

Is their any use of 4K display on smartphone given its size? Some reports say that having more than 300PPI pixel density is of not much use as human eye is not capable of perceiving such great resolution. So it will increase power requirements & affect battery life.
