The commuters at Jaipur Metro will get access to seamless 4G internet connection by year end. By enhancing the internet speed, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation ( JMRC) will become the first Metro in the country to provide the facility.
JMRC director (operations) C S Jeengar said, “After inviting tenders, the work has been awarded to a private company. The mobile in-built solution device will be installed by the end of this year.“
The highinternet speed will be provided at all the nine Metro stations. In present situation, the passengers can use this facility after getting themselves registered. Once the registration process is completed, they get a
one-time password (OTP) to use the facility. The facility is free for the passengers for one hour per day in aggregate at all the stations.
A JMRC official said, “Even the facility is available, due to low speed not many can take advantage of the free internet facility. For the commuters convenience, we have decided to increase the speed,“ said a JMRC official.
He added, “Our Metro was the first to provide internet at all the stations. We have also taken a lead in providing 4G facility.“ An official in the department said, “Complaints have also been registered that if a passenger use the facility for 10 minutes at Mansarovar metro station, then what will happen to his 1 hour quota. After using it at Mansarovar, its difficult to use remaining 50 minutes at other stations. The awarded firm will install their kiosk at all the stations to assist the commuters if they are facing any inconvenience,“ said an official.
Besides, in order to earn revenue, the JMRC is all set to lease out it's retails spaces at Metro stations. The corporation would sell advertisement spaces inside the train. In this regard, tenders have been invited. “We have installed ATM machines and rent would be charged from the banks. Moreover, to earn revenue, retail stores and mobile towers will be given spaces on rent,“ said a senior JMRC official.
