I have 2 PCs connected through LAN cable and has static IP. I am supposed to transfer files between them through the shared folder(s). Since both of them use Ubuntu 18.04, I can even SSH into the 2 nd PC from the 1st. It used to work fine when I tried last week. Today I got a new, long CAT 5e cable and I used it to connect both PCs.

Everything good and I can ping PC2 from PC1. But I cannot see the shared folder in PC2 from PC1. It was not like this before. Also, SSH is not working. It says

~$ ssh [email protected]
ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.211 port 22: Connection refused

If someone can find a fix, please share.

Looks like your previous LAN cable was a "crossover" cable but your new LAN cable is normal cable.

You need a "crossover" LAN cable to connect two PCs directly.

Oh I just saw in OP that he can ping the two PCs fine, so something else might be the issue.
