Zomato, previously known as Foodiebay.com, a food and lifestyle guide that had previously launched Android and Blackberry apps, have now launched an iOS app for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch-es. The app allows users to search for nearby restaurants based on their location. The app performs the same services as the website, in that it allows users to look at menus, contact details, photographs, location and discounts for restaurants, all from the phone itself. They claim their website itself gets around 6,00,000 page views every month.
The website is nearly three years old and is present in 9 cities around India: Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Jaipur. The iOS application is available for free from the App Store or from Zomato's website itself.

Zomato is already the source of all the places you can visit to eat, and now it is helping you click yummy photos of the food you eat. The company has added features to its app that let users edit and add filters to the food pictures they post on the app. Considering most of us click pictures of our food from ten different angles and apply multiple filters to it before putting it up on the social media, Zomato has hit the bull’s eye with the new feature.

Zomato observed that a lot of filters that users were applying to the food shots they uploaded on their website, didn’t go too well with the mood. Hence, they decided to make their own set of filters that would go perfectly well with shots of food. The new Zomato feature allows a user to crop images and add filter. Along with that it also lets them play around with the brightness, contrast, saturation, color overlay and vignettes of an image.

We checked out the new features on the Zomato app, and we must say they look impressive. Tap on the add icon to upload photos, click a picture, and tap on the floating edit option in the bottom left corner. This leads you to a screen that looks quite close to what Instagram looked like some time ago. The app has a total of 17 filters. A crop option and an icon in the middle that lets you rotate the picture.

In order to get the best filters out, Zomato tested various options with various shots of food by playing around with the RGB channels using editing tools. Then they made all sorts of channel graphs and did color transformation, but the real challenge was to replicate the filter they were creating on the editing tools to the Android app. After burning the midnight lamp, Zomato successfully created a code they loved, which also allowed them to process images in a fraction of a second.

This also happens to be Zomato’s first open source contribution to the Android platform. Zomato has pulled this block of code into a separate module and have open sourced it for all.

Google is making it even easier for you to place food orders and book a table at your favourite restaurant via Search. The company is integrating Zomato and Swiggy directly into Search.

Now when you search for a restaurant on their phone, they will see an option to “Place an order” in the search results. The result will let you choose from Zomato or food delivery services like Swiggy and tapping on it will take you to their website to complete the order. Along with ordering food, users can even book a table at a restaurant directly from Google Search by clicking on a partner’s link and you will be taken to their site to make your reservation.

You will be able to order food via Zomato and Swiggy, and make your restaurant reservations with Dineout and Bytplus using Google Search and the Google app on your Android or iOS phone or tablet. These features are just rolling out and Google will add more partners and improve UI over time.

Now you can place food orders via Zomato and Swiggy directly from Google Search

Online restaurant guide and food delivery startup Zomato has introduced tamper-proof packaging to add an extra layer of safety to food deliveries. Here, the food will be sealed by the restaurant and the packet can only be opened by cutting off the top-end strip.

According to the company, it will also feature a ‘100% SAFELY SEALED’ badge on the app for all restaurants who sign-up to use the packaging, further educating users in the decision-making process when ordering food online.
