Xiaomi's wearable partner, Huami, has finally launched its first smartwatch in China for RMB 799 (approximately Rs 8,100). It comes with features like built-in GPS, 200mAh battery and heart rate sensor among others.
After being in the rumors for more than a year, Xiaomi’s partner Huami has finally launched its first smartwatch in China called Amazfit. Huami is the same company that had manufactured the affordable and highly popular Mi Band. The Amazfit smartwatch is priced at RMB 799, which is approximately Rs 8,100. It is set to go on sale starting tomorrow, but there is no word on whether the company intends to sell it outside China or whether it will retail under the Mi brand on Xiaomi’s website.
The Amazfit smartwatch sports a circular design with bezels made from ceramic, making it scratch resistant. It comes with a high-quality 22mm wristband with lugs, allowing users to replace it with ease. In terms of specifications and features, the smartwatch sports a 1.34-inch circular display running at a resolution of 300×300 pixels. Under the hood is a 1.2GHz processor paired with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. It is equipped with a built-in GPS, which would make fitness tracking easier — allowing users to keep a track of their distance covered during activities such as running or jogging.
To keep things ticking, the Amazfit has a 200mAh battery that can offer continuous usage for up to five days with GPS turned ON. If just used for tracking steps, the battery is rated to last for over 11 days, PhoneRadar reports. It also comes with a built-in heart rate sensor that can continuously track your heart rate while performing different activities throughout the day. In China, the Amazfit smartwatch can also be used for making on-the-go payments using AliPay, which Alibaba’s mobile payment service.
Lastly, it is also IP67 certified for water and dust resistance, meaning you can submerge the smartwatch in one meter water for up to 30 minutes. So, while you can use it in light rains or shower, it won’t be recommended to take it for a swim. Other details about connectivity options and the operating system that it runs on are scarce at the moment. But similar to other smartwatches, this one is likely to connect with smartphones via Bluetooth. ALSO READ: After Mi Pen and Mi Umbrella, Xiaomi now launches Wowstick 1fs electric screwdriver
At this price point, the Amazfit smartwatch will compete with the likes of Alcatel Go smartwatch (Rs 5,999) and Intex IRIST Pro (Rs 5,499) among others. There are other smartwatches too, such as the Sony Smartwatch 3 (Rs 12,750), Asus ZenWatch 2 (Rs 12,900), Fitbit Blaze (Rs 13,990) and Moto 360 Sports (Rs 14,999), but they are priced relatively higher.
