Looks like Xiaomi wants to start the new year with a bang. After announcing that it is going to be part of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 , there are now speculations around a new device launch as well.

According to report in the MakTech blog, the Chinese smartphone maker is all set to launch the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 in January 2017 . The dates have not yet been announced though a mid-January launch is being speculated. The Redmi Note 4 which was launched in China earlier this year in August.

But unlike the Chinese variant, which was launched with MediaTek Helio X20 chipset, the Indian variant of the Redmi Note 4 will be launched with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 SoC. Xiaomi still cannot sell MediaTek powered smartphones in India, due to a court injunction.

In terms of features, the Redmi Note 4 comes with a 5.5-inch FullHD display with a 2.5D curved display, thereby giving a pixel density of 401ppi. The phone is expected to come in different RAM (2GB/3GB/4GB) and storage (16GB/32GB). The storage is expandable to 128GB using a microSD card. There will be fingerprint scanner on the rear side of the phone as well. In terms of design language, the Redmi Note 4 does not look very different from the phone it will most likely replace – the Redmi Note 3.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the OS out of the box with MIUI skin atop it. Other features include a dual SIM card support with hybrid SIM card slot, 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS, Micro-USB, infra-red port. The smartphone comes in three colour options including Silver, Gold, and Dark Grey.

In terms of camera, you get a 13MP rear camera with dual tone LED flash unit, PDAF and a 5MP front-facing camera. Just like its predecessor, the Redmi Note 4 will come with a large capacity 4100mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is expected to be launched at a launch price of Rs 11,999. This is still under speculation, so the final price may be different. Also there is no clarity as to which RAM and storage variants are headed to India, so we will have to wait and watch.

As for the China pricing the Redmi Note 4 is available for CNY 899 (Rs 8,900 approx) for the 16GB model and CNY 1199 (Rs 11,800 approx) for the 64GB one.

Redmi Note 4 India launch on the cards; Xiaomi starts looking for Mi Explorers

Xiaomi has an all-new Redmi device up its sleeve for Indian consumers and the company is looking for ‘Mi Explorers’ to gear up for the launch. In its tweet, the company has called out Mi fans to be part of the Mi Explorers Challenge who could help Xiaomi perfect its next product based on user feedback. Although Xiaomi doesn’t mention which Redmi device it will launch, but all speculations hint at the India debut of the Redmi Note 4 in January.

The Mi Explorers page explains the requirements for someone to participate in the challenge. The last date to apply for the Mi Explorers Challenge is December 30. Winners stand a chance to win the upcoming Redmi device. Once you log into the Mi account, you will be required to finish a questionnaire in five minutes in which the questions range from identifying Mi products to the terms and conditions of the Mi Explorers challenge. Once you complete the survey, Mi India will contact you in case you are selected to become an explorer. As the product launch is preceded by user feedback and data, the group of explorers are likely to get hands on the purported Redmi device before the masses.

Xiaomi had hosted a similar Mi Explorers program before the launch of the Redmi Note 3 phablet in India earlier this year. The Redmi Note 3 had been the ‘highest-shipped smartphone ever online in India in any given quarter,’ according to a report on IDC. With the Redmi Note 4, the company intends to continue dominating the Indian smartphone sphere. The smartphone, priced at RMB 899 (approximately Rs 9,000) for the base variant, will yet again be one of the budget phablet smartphones offering a blend of looks and features.

Redmi Note 4 specifications and features

The Redmi Note 4 features a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display with 2.5D curved glass on top. In China, it is powered by a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core SoC, but for the Indian market, Xiaomi will no doubt switch to a Qualcomm chipset, mostly Snapdragon 625 SoC. It comes in options of 2GB of RAM + 16GB onboard storage and 3GB of RAM + 64GB of onboard storage. It is expected that the company will also launch a third variant with 4GB of RAM along with more onboard storage.

In the photography department, the Redmi Note 4 features a 13-megapixel rear camera LED flash, f/2.0 aperture and PDAF support. For selfies, it comes with a 5-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture and 85-degree wide-angle lens. Although the predecessor, Redmi Note 3, features a 16-megapixel rear camera, the output from the Redmi Note 4 is reportedly said to be better in terms of image quality. The company’s invite for Mi Explorers also hints at photography at the centre of the challenge as skills in photography and videography will be bonuses for selecting Mi fans.

Keeping the Redmi Note 4 ticking is a 4,100mAh battery which is said to last for the day on a single charge. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots (via hybrid tray), 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the software front, the Redmi Note 4 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 8 layered atop.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 prices

If the company follows the same pricing as China, the base variant with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage could be available in India for approximately Rs 9,000, while the 3GB variant with 64GB of internal storage could be priced at Rs 12,000. As it is expected that there will be a third variant with 4GB of RAM, the price of the same could be estimated to be around Rs 15,000. Additionally, as there is no official word on the color choices, we could expect the company to limit the color options to the standard options of silver, gold and grey, with the introduction the new color choices of black and blue later.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC launched in India, priced from Rs 9,999: specifications and features

Just about a year after the launch of the extremely successful Redmi Note 3, Xiaomi has finally brought the Redmi Note 4 to India. Priced from Rs 9,999, the phone sticks to the competitive price position of its predecessor, offering a similar set of features and specifications, and an all-round approach to the smartphone. The Redmi Note 4 will go on sale exclusively on 23rd January at 12PM on Flipkart and mi.com/in, with three variants available. The most affordable 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage variant will be priced at Rs 9,999, while the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant will cost Rs 10,999, and the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant will retail at Rs 12,999. The phone will be available in three color variants: gold, dark grey and matte black. The matte black variant won’t be available at launch, and will be made available at a later stage.

Although the device is a successor to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 , it features an SoC that could be considered a slight downgrade from that of the Redmi Note 3. While the older device runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC, the newer phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 clocked at 2GHz. Although the 625 is an octa-core SoC as compared to the hexa-core 650, the latter has two ARM A72 cores as the secondary processing unit, while the latter uses a total of eight ARM A53 cores. However, the Snapdragon 625 is fabricated using the 14nm process, and this may have a positive impact on the performance and efficiency of the SoC.

However, the Redmi Note 4 does get a boost in RAM and internal storage, with the higher variant bumping the RAM up to 4GB and the internal storage up to 64GB. The device runs MIUI 8 on top of Android Marshmallow, while the primary camera is a 13-megapixel shooter and the secondary camera is a 5-megapixel unit. There is also a fingerprint sensor at the rear, which can unlock the device from standby mode. The phone has a large 4100mAh battery, which is a marginal upgrade from the 4050mAh unit on the Redmi Note 3.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 will take on the recently launched Honor 6X , the Coolpad Cool 1 and the Moto G4 Plus, with similar features and pricing. While the Honor 6X runs the Hisilicon Kirin 655 SoC, the Coolpad Cool 1 and Moto G4 Plus run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 and 617 respectively. However, of these options, only the Redmi Note 4 and Honor 6X come with 64GB internal storage variants, making them stand out for their larger storage.

Xiaomi today launched the Redmi Note 4, the successor to its best selling smartphone ever, the Redmi Note 3. The Redmi Note 4 will go on sale exclusively on Flipkart and Xiaomi’s official site Mi.com on January 23 at 12PM. For the first sale, only the gold and dark grey color variants will be available. Xiaomi has said that the new matte black edition will be available sometime later.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 specifications

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 smartphone features a 5.5-inch full HD display with 2.5D Curved Glass protection. Under its hood, it runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz. While the inbuilt storage goes up to 64GB, it can be further expanded up to 128GB via a mciroSD card.

In the photography department, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 comes with an improved 13-megapixel lens on the rear end. Up front, the smartphone houses a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. Xiaomi reckons that it has worked on improving the rear camera performance when compared to the Redmi Note 3, with a new 13-megapixel CMOS sensor that has 20 percent larger pixels and comes with Phase Detection Auto Focus.

For power, the Redmi Note 4 uses a 4,100mAh battery which is a slight upgrade from the 4,050mAh battery in the Redmi Note 3 . However, thanks to the new 14nm Snapdragon SoC, Xiaomi claims that the battery performance has improved by as much as 25 percent.

The Redmi Note 4 also comes with a fingerprint scanner which is located on the back below the camera, just like the Redmi Note 3. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android Marshmallow based MIUI 8, and Xiaomi is promising an Android Nougat update will come pretty soon.
