Xiaomi is constantly up to something new. In my opinion, Xiaomi is one of the most exciting companies to keep track of, with it investing and manufacturing the most unexpected of products. The latest new exciting news that comes from Xiaomi is a post from the company’s vice president Hugo Barra on Twitter. Barra has shared two pictures of a drone-eye-view of Xiaomi’s new tech park. In his brief tweet, Barra reveals that Xiaomi’s tech park will consist of eight buildings in total. The construction will be spread across a total of 22 million square meters. He also revealed that the project will be complete by 2018. The Xiaomi VP did not reveal a lot of details of the tech park, but we are eagerly waiting for a better view of the same.

Xiaomi in its early days was seen as a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, which heavily imitates

Apple. But steadily, the company has proved its doubters wrong with launches across a wide range of categories. Xiaomi maybe building its own tech park at the time Apple’s spaceship-le Campus 2 is nearing completion, but the timing is coincidental. Building its own tech park in China just proves that Xiaomi is here to stay and it is much more than just an Apple imitator.

Xiaomi has been expanding its portfolio from just being a smartphone manufacturer, to investing an entire ecosystem of Internet of Things (IoT) products. Xiaomi has released a 4K video drone, a smart kettle , a programmable Lego-like robot, air purifiers, and the list goes on. Xiaomi also created a crowdfunding platform called Mijia, which is a sub-brand of Xiaomi. It is essentially a new Mi ecosystem under which all the Internet of things fall.

Besides that, after launching its accessories, and the Mi Box in the US earlier this year, Xiaomi is taking the US market quite seriously. The Chinese company has announced that for the first time ever it will be present at CES 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Talking about Apple’s spaceship campus, a recent drone video of the Apple Campus 2, shows the project reaching its final stages. The Apple Campus 2 is spread over 126 acres and includes wooded walking areas, restaurants and fitness centres. It has the capacity to accommodate up to 13,000 employees. Separate buildings for research would be built nearby and occupy about 300,000 square feet. As the new campus would reportedly make use of only renewable power, it will house a solar power installation. Earlier it was expected that the construction would be completed by 2016-end.

Apple has purchased most of the land for the campus from Hewlett Packard, where late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs got one of his first summer jobs. Jobs had personally shown the architectural plans for the new campus to the Cupertino city council in 2014. “It’s a little like a spaceship landed,” Jobs had said of the circular building with its massive interior courtyard.
