WWE’s official website revealed that the Mexican has been let go from his contract due to “unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee”.

Del Rio – whose former ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez exited WWE last week – has held the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship on two occasions each, while he also prevailed in the 2011 Royal Rumble match and scooped the Money in the Bank contract the same year.

The San Luis-born grappler signed for Vince McMahon’s company in 2009, before debuting on the main roster the following year and defeating Rey Mysterio in his debut match, on Smackdown.

Del Rio wrestled on both Raw and Main Event in the days leading up to his departure, losing to Dean Ambrose in Austin, Texas on Monday evening and going down to Jack Swagger - the man he bested at WrestleMania 29 in New Jersey - 24 hours later in Laredo, Texas.

The 37-year-old, the nephew of WWE Hall of Famer Mil Mascaras, competed in Mexican organisations Asistencia Asesoría y Administración and Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre prior to landing in WWE, while he also holds a 9-5 winning record from his forays into mixed martial arts.
