The Supreme Court has said it will not stop the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League or IPL, which is currently dogged by a spot-fixing scandal.
The court today said it will not stop any player from joining the IPL from April 16.
The court also said Sunil Gavaskar will replace N Srinivasan and officiate as president during the IPL. One of the five vice presidents of the Board of Control for Cricket in India or BCCI will be overall president.
Mr Gavaskar, a former cricket captain and one of India's greatest batsmen, will be the first seasoned cricketer to head the Board for Control of Cricket in India or BCCI, the world's richest cricket board.
The court has asked him to end his contract as commentator with the BCCI.
The Supreme Court had on Tuesday asked Mr Srinivasan to step down, calling it "nauseating" that he had stuck to the post despite a probe into his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan's alleged involvement in betting and spot fixing.
The board had earlier said its rules don't allow an outsider like the former Indian skipper to take charge as its chief.
The BCCI wanted ex-cricketers like Shivlal Yadav and Anil Kumble, who are members, to take over.
