Wickedleak launched the Wammy Neo Youth
recently in the market and it comes with an
attractive price tag of Rs 8,490 only. The
Wammy Neo Youth is a powerful device in its
price category and comes with an Octa-Core
processor paired with 1GB RAM. In a market
like India where most of the budget
manufacturers offer 4GB ROM on board
Wickedleak has managed to fit in 8GB ROM at
this price tag. We have the device with us for
the review and here are our impressions.
Unboxing
As you get the shipment from Wickedleak you
will realize it looks exactly like the Wammy
Neo smartphone launched some time back. The
dimensions, look & feel, weight and design are
same, nothing changes.
When you unbox the device the first thing you
will see is the device itself. It’s very slim and
light, feels comfortable to hold and the button
placement is brilliant. The box contains
earphone with microphone, Micro USB data
cable for charging and data sync and a charger
along with user manual. The Wammy Neo
Youth comes with the new box packaging and
the new logo on the box (looks better than
previous versions).
Design
The design of this smartphone like said earlier
has no changes; it remains same as the
Wammy Neo smartphone. More details on the
design and physical layout of buttons and
everything can be referred to our previous
review of the Wammy Neo here .
Wickedleak has not changed anything at all,
except with a minor downgrade in the RAM
amount. The Wammy Neo has 2GB RAM while
the Wammy Neo Youth has 1GB RAM. You
might think that the downgrade in the RAM
amount will affect the performance of the
device but that’s not the case here.
Performance does not take any noticeable hit.
It remains equal to its predecessor.

Software & UI
The Wickedleak Wammy Neo Youth comes with
Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS out of the box. The
company has promised Android KitKat update
for this device in the future. The Android OS
on this device is the stock Android OS, it has
not gone crazy adding bloatware and
preinstalled apps. The OS is fast and very much
responsive. We have customized the review
unit a little by adding the Android L Keyboard
and Android L Dialer, these customizations
worked really well. There were never any app
crashes or lags with these customizations.
Wickedleak Wammy Neo Youth
Some of the review units from Micromax and
Lava gave us trouble with customizations (older
mediatek processors) and there were multiple
instances of the customization failing to load.
Some of the launchers that we installed on
review units of other companies were force
closed automatically. But the Wammy Neo
Youth seems just fine with any customization.
The user interface of the device is pretty neat
and clean. The UI is the stock Android UI and
there are no modifications from Wickedleak’s
end, the company leaves it for the user to add
customization to the UI of his choice. With the
latest hardware and 1GB RAM on board we
really dint have any app compatibility issues on
this device.
Display
The Wammy Neo Youth has a 5-inch multi
touch capacitive display with a resolution of
1280x720 pixels. It is not the best display on
the planet but it serves its purpose well. The
display is bright and sunlight visibility is
amazing. The auto brightness feature works the
way it is designed to work, you will never have
the need to manually increase or decrease the
brightness on the device. The color
reproduction on the display is beautiful, there
were no issue with the saturation of colors on
our device.
Wickedleak Wammy Neo Youth
When it comes to display one question that
everyone have in their mind is ‘How is the
touch response?’. Well frankly, the touch
latency of this device is little above average. It
is as good as any other smartphone with a
price tag of Rs 15k and above.
