Shimla will have Wi-Fi spots soon as
Municipal Corporation has passed the proposal on Monday and assured implementation within a month.

Shimla deputy mayor Tikender Singh Panwar said the company executing the project will bear the entire cost while earnings through the project will help fill SMC's coffers.

He said that as per proceedings of the meeting held in November last year, the towns of HP are divided into three zones - A, B and C. Shimla falls under zone A and B. Each of the 25 wards of the town will have around eight to ten Wi-Fi spots, some of which will be Bharari Bazaar, government primary school at Ruldu Bhatta, lower Kaithu area, Chaura Maidan, Totu power house, Chakkar area, MLA quarters, Government Press of India at Nabha, Phagli area, Slaughter House, Majithia House, Dhali Tunnel, HB colony, SDA colony, and Charlie Villa.

While some councillors raised several issues like sewerage and water meters as SMC had not been able to implement the automated water reading system even when they assured to complete the project by January 29, no councillor raised the issue of jaundice cases and poor quality of water supply in the town.

Besides the Wi-Fi project, SMC has passed proposal of Rs 5 crore for roads and Rs 4.5 crore to resolve water-related problems of the town.
