Discussion Why does mobile operators create their own OTT platforms instead of linking OTT services subscriptions directly to mobile numbers?

Off topic : Why does mobile operators waste money creating a seperate OTT platform? They can directly give subscription on the phone numbers directly on the OTT apps.

I can guess a few reasons. They use Google admob on their apps, it earns money on service (read app) usage directly. They also provide paid ad free subscription packs, which increases their revenue further. If they tie up with services and provide access directly revenue might be lesser for telecom operators.

Lastly, with their own app they can better handle when to expire/revoke one's subscription on pack expiry. But if given official subscription it is upto the OTT service provider.
