Whatsapp looks set to unveil some new features

Rumours are rife that WhatsApp could be set for some new Facebook-style features.

The social network purchased WhatsApp last year for $19 billion (£12 million) and it seems they want to put their stamp on it.

According to reports from WhatsApp beta tester Ilhan Pektas, the service could soon feature a 'Like' button.

This would allow users to give the tumbs up to content posted on the app.

The 'Like' button could also allow you to send a short reply to simple messages and help communicate more quickly in group chats.

Another possible feature coming to WhatsApp is a “Mark as unread” option, which would work in a similar way to your email.

We're not entirely sure what the use of “Mark as unread” is, other than avoiding the dreaded blue ticks to indicate a message has been read.

None of these new options have been confirmed by WhatsApp, but with Facebook now in charge they are certainly plausible “We think that enabling business to customer messaging has good business potential for us” David Wehner, Facebook Chief financial officer
Facebook recently announced that WhatsApp may begin to allow businesses to get in touch via the service
.
Speaking at a technology conference in Boston the firm’s chief financial officer, David Wehner, said: “We think that enabling business to customer messaging has good business potential for us.”

WhatsApp’s new owners have been looking for ways to make money from the service and this type of communication could offer the perfect revenue stream.

Viber & Skype better for Communication.
Instagram for Photos.
