NEW DELHI: Facebook-owned WhatsApp consistently keeps on getting improved with new features. And now, it seems that the popular messaging app is working on an improved Status feature that is currently under beta testing. According to WaBetaInfo (@wabetainfo), a Twitter account that tracks changes in WhatsApp's beta builds, the app will soon allow users to download a GIFs directly in the chat, if they have links for the same.
Access Denied
Currently, WhatsApp includes GIF support but the same cannot be viewed via shared links. When a user gets a link for a GIF, they have to open it in the mobile browser to view/download the GIF. After the update, users will be able view the GIFs directly in the app by clicking on the 'Tap to download' option. Earlier this month, an online report suggested that WhatsApp is planning to enter the mobile payments segment in India . The messaging app is reportedly planning to launch a peer-to-peer payment system in the country, which will likely be based on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform. If launched, it would be the first such offering from the social networking giant. Citing unnamed sources, a report by The Ken website claimed that WhatsApp is working to launch a person-to-person payment system in India within the next six months.
