Kieran Powell, West Indies top order
batsman, has announced that he is
planning to take up baseball and
wants to play in Major League Baseball
(MLB) in the United States of America
for the upcoming season. Born in
March 1990, Kieran Powell is a
powerful left-handed opener. He
represented the Leeward Islands at
the U-15 and U-19 level before
breaking into the West Indies U-19
team.
The 25-year-old will become the first
cricketer to move on to baseball if he is
signed up by one of the clubs in the
United States. He will hold his official
scout Tryout day at the IMG Academy
in Bradenton, Florida
Powell made his international debut in
2009, when he was selected in a team
that was forced to play with out many
players as a result of a dispute with
the West Indies Cricket Board. Powell
scored his first FC century, a fine effort
of 131 against the visiting English
