With their budget being clipped (Rs 58.66 lakh) by the Supreme Court, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to cut costs while hosting the fourth Test between India and England from December 8-12.

"This time, we've got a limited budget. Anyways, we don't earn much out of a Test. Hence, we had to consider cost-cutting measures. We normally spend Rs 1.5 crore on catering, but this time we've decided to spend around Rs 1 crore on it instead," PV Shetty, the MCA joint secretary, told TOI after the association's managing committee meeting on Monday (November 28).

Crowd turnout at Mohali for the third Test has been disappointing, and while Mumbai is expected to be better, it's clear that the MCA doesn't want to take a chance in an age where people flock to the stadiums in the metros only during the IPL or T20 Internationals.

"Around 1,000 tickets will be distributed to the cricket playing schools of the city (whose team has made it to the quarterfinals of the Harris or Giles Shield), and NGOs for the specially-abled children. We'll send passes to all the former India cricketers, and top Ranji players, from the city for the game," informed Shetty.

"The online sales have been encouraging so far. We've already sold 4000 tickets. Our members have picked up around 1,000 tickets. In the coming days, we'll advertise about the Test in newspapers. We're sure that people will want to go to the stadium to watch someone like Virat Kohli," he said.

This will be the first Test in Mumbai in three years, with the last one being the farewell game of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.
