German commercial free-to-air broadcaster VOX will launch a multimedia service in the HbbTV standard on 2 September 2011 during consumer electronics fair IFA in Berlin.

The core of the service is a data base with over 340,000 recipes from VOX' cookery shows which will become available on the TV screen for the first time.

The viewers will be able to access the free-of-charge service by pressing the red button on the remote control. The VOX TV programme will remain on the screen, so that users won't miss the current show while browsing through the recipes.

The "kochbar" portal, which contains recipes from progammes such as "Das perfekte Dinner" ("The perfect dinner") or "Promi Kocharena" ("Celebrety cooking arena"), has so far only been available on the internet at http://www.kochbar.de.

After RTL, VOX is the second channel operated by German RTL group to offer an HbbTV service. To gain access, an Hbb-compliant flat-screen TV set or digital receiver with an internet connection is required.
