Vodafone India on Tuesday launched Mpesa-Pay, an addition to its online mobile wallet meant for merchants.
Through the Mpesa Pay app, mom and pop stores who do not have POS machines can also have customers digitally transfer money from various transactions.
Just 5 percent of Indian villages have banks and villagers need to travel 15-50km to get to a bank. These initiatives will help in digital peneteration , said Sunil Sood, head of Vodafone India.
There are 8.5 million customers on their mobile wallet Mpesa that was launched in 2013.
Sood added that in the month of September the company saw transactions worth Rs 860
crore done on it.
