Vodafone brings back Pug in new advertising campaign

Vodafone India brought back the Pug in a new advertising campaign nearly a year after reviving it to launch mobile number portability, or MNP, service in 2011.

The Pug was introduced by Hutch in 2003 and won as a legacy by Vodafone when the UK-based telecom group bought the company in 2007. It has been recalled this time to win over customers from new operators whose licences were scrapped by the Supreme Court on February 2, 2012.

Early this month, the apex court annulled 122 mobile permits of eight telecom companies affecting 79 million customers, though not immediately.

The court asked the government to auction the permits within four months, giving time for customers to move to other service networks using mobile number portability service, that allows consumers to change their service provider but keep the same mobile number.
