Vividh Bharati Chennai now available on 100.5 FM

MUMBAI: Akashvani is taking fast strides to install dedicated FM transmitters for its Vividh Bharati channels. Thus, from 20 February, Vividh Bharati Chennai will be available on FM 100.5 MHz frequency, beside its MW transmission. On 20 February, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Col Rajyavardhan Rathore will inaugurate a dedicated FM transmitter for Vividh Bharati Chennai. With this, the channel will witness hi-fidelity, stereophonic sound quality, and will be both noise and distortion free. Vividh Bharati was introduced in 1957 by All India Radio and the service in Chennai commenced on 3 October 1957. The commercial channel in Chennai was operating on 20 KW Medium Wave transmitters, and now a dedicated 10 KW FM transmitter has been installed. The availability of Vividh Bharati on FM will increase the scope of the channel and help to attract more listeners. The light entertainment channel of the public service broadcaster can now be accessed on mobile devices and car stereos. AIR has taken up an ambitious project of expansion to maximise the coverage. With switchover to FM mode, the aim is to cover 60 per cent of the country’s population in a phased manner. Out of 37 Vividh Bharati channels, 32 have a dedicated FM transmitter. I would say it is a good move. I love Vidh Bharathi Chennai. I used to listen to this station in MW (AM) from the year 1993 (when I was 9 years old).

yes... even i listen to chennai A station on MW earlier they call it kalai malar, not sure when it will be available on FM, my favourite is indru oru thagaval by thenkachi ko swaminathan.
