Former India wicketkeeper Vijay Dahiya, pace bowler Amit Bhandari are among the prominent names to have applied for the national selectors (senior and junior) post for the upcoming season.

With BCCI making it a transparent process, a lot of former cricketers have shown interest to take up the selector’s posts where the parent body pays handsome salary.

“Yes, I have applied for the job. I have never attached any expectations with any position. But working as a national selector is an honour. If selected, I will give it my best shot,” said 43-year-old Dahiya, who has been chief coach of Delhi Ranji team as well as an assistant coach with Kolkata Knight Riders.

Dahiya has played two Tests and 19 ODIs for India apart from 84 first-class matches for Delhi and North Zone.

Similarly Bhandari, who has played 95 first-class matches apart from two ODIs, also confirmed about his candidature for the post of selector.

Bhandari is the assistant cum bowling coach of the Delhi Ranji squad since last season.

From Uttar Pradesh, which falls under central zone, two former state stalwarts Gyanendra Pandey and Gopal Sharma have applied for the job.

Pandey is already serving as a junior selector and in all likelihood is eyeing the senior selector’s job.

However, there is some confusion regarding former off-spinner Gopal Sharma’s application as he had already been a national selector once.

“Gopal was a national selector for only a year (2004-05) and after that the committee was changed. He has applied for the post,” one UPCA official in know of things said.

It has been learnt that former off-spinner Ashish Kapoor, who has worked earlier with Delhi Daredevils and also with second string Indian squads has applied for the post.

Kapoor is also in running to get Delhi’s U-23 coach’s job as Dahiya has declined the offer.
