Vi set to launch 5G in 23 more cities.

The cities include:

•Ahmedabad, Agra, Aurangabad, Kozhikode, Cochin, Dehradun, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Malappuram, Meerut, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Rajkot, Sonepat, Surat, Siliguri, Trivandrum, Vadodara and Vizag
•To enhance performance and energy efficiency, Vi is deploying AI-powered Self-Organising Networks (SON) and has partnered with global technology leaders Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung.

*Vi 5G momentum so far:* In areas where Vi 5G is live over 70% of eligible users have already experienced the benefits

*Alongside the 5G rollout, Vi has consistently been investing in 4G network too.*

•Since April last year, Vi has deployed 4G on the 900 MHz band across approximately 65,000 sites.
•Added over 56,000 sites on the 1800 MHz/2100 MHz/TDD bands resulting in a 35% boost in 4G data capacity and a 26% increase in 4G speeds.
•Vi’s 4G population coverage has surged by 88 million people rising from 77% in March 2024 to 84%, connecting more Indians to the digital future.

No 5G for Chennai, Hyderabad, Ranchi etc
May be, those cities need more number of towers comparing the Tier-II cities they are planning. For example, in case of TN, they have selected Madurai (third big city after Chennai and Kovai) instead of Chennai. Because Chennai needs 10 times more towers than Madurai, considering Population density, area and high rise buildings. Even Chennai used to be a separate Telecom Circle long back, like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. Further VoId used to be very weak in Chennai circle (no sub GHz spectrum at that time) and it was Airtel's strong area (even now Jio is second after Airtel in TN, by more than half crore customers).

Since VoId has limited resources, I think they prefer to cover many number of cities than one or two big cities, especially in their weak circles. Personally I feel, this is still a very good thing to do. Finally they are trying to compete, instead of being a slave to the cartel and I really appreciate that. Good job, VoId.

They are competing since 2021. They started getting away from Airtel in terms of offers. Double data, night unlimited and weekend data rollover. Great for those who have great network of Vi 4G. I still feel Vi 4G is better than Vi 5G capped at 300GB with little bit of more speeds.

Right now Airtel is offering 5G 300GB at 349/399 and Vi is offering same at 299. 50 rupees cheaper.
