If reports are to be believed, the Google Play Store will soon let you stream an app before you buy it.

The feature was first reported by Android Police and has apparently debuted with select apps on the Play Store. This streaming offers a time-limited trial of the app you’re looking to purchase and you’ll see a “Try Now” button next to streamable apps.

App streaming seems to be restricted to the US Play Store for now as we could not find reports of streaming apps on any other store. The Indian Play Store also does not seem to have the option.

Android Police did spot the feature in the Play Store APK some months earlier, but weren’t sure at the time when it would be implemented.

The ability to stream an app trial does seem like a nice idea. You don’t need to clutter your phone with more junk and we’re guessing that your data will also be a lot more secure.

Windows Phone did have the right idea with its Marketplace, however. You could try any app in the app Marketplace as a time-limited or feature-limited demo before purchase. The App Store doesn’t give you any option for a trial, and neither did the Play Store. The only concession with Play Store purchases is that if you’re not happy with an app or it’s defective, buggy, etc., you can get a no-questions-asked refund within 2 hours of purchase.

Google hasn’t officially announced this feature yet, which is a bit of a surprise. If, by some chance, you’re on the US Play Store,
Android Police reports that Ticket to Ride is one of the few games offering the free trial via app-streaming.
