The Union Budget for the financial year 2017-18 has been preponed by a month and will be presented on February 1.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will present the budget on February 1, 2017.
The Finance Ministry had earlier proposed advancing the date of the Budget 2017-18 by a month to February 1.
The Cabinet on September 21 had in-principle decided to end the colonial-era tradition of presenting the Union Budget on last day of February and advance it by about a month to help complete the legislative process for approval of annual spending plans and tax proposals before beginning of the new financial year on April 1.
The Finance Ministry has been proposing that the Budget presentation date be fixed for February 1 and the entire exercise be completed by March 24.
