Uber will give away 70 free rides to a few lucky winners on Independence Day. The Uber rides will be valid only when taken in Delhi-NCR. Users will have to take 2 rides before August 15 midnight to become eligible for the contest. Uber says it will announce the winners on August 19. The company, however, did not reveal the exact number of lucky winners it will offer free rides to. The free Uber rides will be up to Rs 100 only. “To commemorate the 70 years of Independence, we’re giving away 70 Free Rides to a few lucky winners. Simply take 2 trips this long weekend to qualify. The more you ride, the better are your chances,” said Uber in a blogpost.
Uber has put out a list of top destinations in Delhi where users can go celebrate the Independence Day over long weekend. ” With the air rife with patriotism, there’s no better time to visit these places and celebrate the city we call home. And let Uber be your guide while you do it,” the blogpost said. The list includes Connaught Place, India Gate, Akshardham Temple, Qutub Minar, Rajghat, Dilli Haat, Lodhi Gardens and shopping malls. Alongwith the list, Uber has also suggested tips which can come in handy while users visist these places. For example, Uber’s PROTIP for Rajghat is, “Make sure you visit before 5pm which is when it closes for the day.”
Uber recently announced it has done away with surge pricing and will present users in the US and some parts of India with ‘upfront fare’. This means that Uber riders will no longer have to deal with lightning bolt denoting surge pricing while booking a cab. Uber will calculate upfront rates using expected time and distance of travel and local traffic.
