Twitter’s 140 character limit is officially changing in coming months. Last week only, a report came out suggesting that Twitter will soon receive a major change on how it counts characters in a tweet.

Today, the company has announced that in ‘coming months’ users around the world will see some changes simplifying Tweets with the change in existing 140 characters limit. So for instance, @names in replies and media attachments (like photos, GIFs, videos, and polls) will no longer count as characters. Which means anything beyond your text will not be in those 140 characters.

As of now, the links inside a tweet currently take up 23 characters while a photo takes up 24 characters. By removing photos and links from the character limit, users will be able to add more content.

Not just this, Twitter is also planning ‘more’ changes for Tweets. It is exploring new ways to make existing uses case easier and enable new ones, says company. Some of the changes include that users will see the Retweet button on their own Tweets, so they can easily Retweet or Quote Tweet themselves.

Additionally, Twitter is getting rid of @mention in tweets. You will no longer be have to use the ”@” convention, which people currently use to broadcast Tweets broadly.

Also, if you want a reply to be seen by all your followers, Twitter is no longer relying on @replies for it to be able to reach out bigger audience. Although this part is little confusing, but we are sure that Twitter will have a simple plan of action and execution.
