TIRUPATI: The Annadanam Trust of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Friday successfully conducted a trial run of supplying free tea, coffee, milk and buttermilk to the pilgrims visiting Tirumala.
The Annadanam Trust is getting nearly `70 crore from various banks, through deposits, to extend the services. However, after receiving deposits worth `750 crore, the Annadanam Trust authorities decided to offer free food to devotees by drafting an action plan. But, before this, the TTD told the Trust officials to start offering milk, tea, coffee and buttermilk to the pilgrims, free of cost.
As part of this, the Trust distributed milk, coffee and tea for free from 11 am to 12 noon on Friday.
This apart, the TTD recently offered free breakfast up to 12 noon, on a trial basis. After reviewing the feedback from pilgrims, employees and other sources, the temple management decided to continue the service for devotees in queue lines and also extend it to other places including Tarigonda Vengamamba Canteen Complex, Annadanam Complex, Amenities Complex and Queue Complex, after three months, said Annadanam Trust secretary Chenchu Lakshmi
"We started supplying free tea, coffee and milk to the devotees on Friday, on trail basis. From today, we extended the service to all the places in Tirumala such Annadanam Complex, 62 compartments in the Queue Complex, Amenities Complex, queue lines, the newly opened Divya Darshan Complex and `300 queue lines. On trail basis, we served 15,000 pilgrims each day," she explained, while hastening to add that the new facility is not yet officially launched
The supply of tea, coffee and milk will also be extended soon to Tiruchanur, for the benefit of the pilgrims. Along with this, all the hostel students studying in the TTD educational institutions will be offered the service, sources said
