The Indian telecom regulator has backed its recommendations to the telecom department for levying penalties of Rs 3,050 crore on Bharti Airtel , Vodafone India and Idea Cellular, saying that it was well within its powers to recommend penal action as the incumbents had violated license norms and Trai regulations.
In a detailed rebuttal to DoT , the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) refused to reconsider its decision on the grounds that the incumbents were not giving adequate points of interconnect to Reliance Jio , blatantly and willfully, which in turn was hurting customer experience and quality of service.
