How long should a phone ring before a disconnection ? That’s the focus of the sector regulator's latest consultation paper, wherein the
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ( Trai) has sought views on the maximum call ringing time permissible to ensure optimal usage of phone network resources, including spectrum.Trai has also sought feedback on whether mobile users must be given the option to customise the ringing duration to improve customer convenience, and possible ways to do so.

A particular telco, it said, had reduced the call ringing span to 20 seconds, a scenario that could impact the network performance of other mobile and landline operators with longer durations, building a case of bringing uniformity to the call ringing span. Ring time in mobile networks is typically, 30-45 seconds, while for landline networks, it hovers between 60 and 120 seconds.

How long should your phone ring, asks Trai - ET Telecom

So, this is the reason for Jio's shorter ringing times. They have reduced it to 20 seconds! Just now I have verified it and the phone on the other side rang exactly for 20 seconds.

Oh so that's why the rings are so short on jio. What more creative things jio will be offering us? Now it feels airtel is more ethical!

45 Seconds is Best
If phone is in another room then can't even reach in 20 seconds

In future if we are left with Jio's monopoly imagine they will dare to reduce it to even 2 rings and more silly things like this will happen.. In my opinion it should be minimum 45 seconds imagine the case of elderly people, those who can't respond quickly will face missed calls. This sh#t practice should be stopped.

It's Step To Make Money From Call Receiver Who Only Receives Calls And Uses Main Balance To Call. (Not Using Unlimited Packs)
Some One Get Missed Call(s) Due To Short Ring And Call Back To That Caller And Get Charged.

Telecom regulator Trai has sought the industry's views to discover appropriate duration for a call to ring in a bid to ensure optimal usage of network and spectrum resources.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (Trai) latest discussion paper on 'Duration of alert for the called party' will also explore the "possibility of customisation of ringing duration" by the phone users, according to a statement.

TRAI is planning to regulate this based on recent developments with Jio FixedLine calls disconnections.

Airtel alleges that Jio is gaming the IUC system by reducing its outgoing call ringing time which results in a missed call, forcing the user to call back and hence create incoming call traffic to Jio
This diverted incoming traffic would lead to Jio making 6 paise on every call that lands on its network, Airtel has alleged

Airtel alleges Jio reducing call ringing time to get more incoming traffic

“For example, if one operator reduces the ringing time for outgoing calls to other networks (say from 45 seconds to 20 seconds only) it leads to a lot of customer inconvenience since the calls are cut-off even before the receiving customer had the time to pick it up," the official said.

Bharti Airtel has alleged that after getting a missed call the customer will call back to the originating operator’s network.
