While Samsung is busy launching its flagship device Galaxy S4 in various markets around the world, there are news reports floating that the company might be working on a ruggedised version of this smartphone.
UnwiredView via Techview.me is reporting that Samsung is working on a water-proof and dust-proof variant of Galaxy S4. This information was shared by none other than Young Soo Kim, who is the President of Samsung Mobility's Gulf division. Kim was addressing media queries at the Galaxy S4 launch. When quizzed regarding why Samsung is not offering any ruggedised smartphone as yet, he shared that the company is already working on the same.

Rugged Galaxy S4 Active Joining the Samsung Family

Once again capitalizing on the success of its flagship smartphone, Samsung is releasing a more rugged spin-off of the Galaxy S4. Dubbed the “Galaxy S4 Active,” the new phone will meet the IP67 standard for durability, allowing it to handle conditions most consumer electronics can’t. You’ll find this tough new device on sale at AT&T locations starting June 21st.

The Galaxy S4 Active joins a growing family of Galaxy S4 gadgets, which already includes the original Galaxy S4 as well as the Mini, Zoom, and Galaxy S4 Google Edition. Unlike its kin, the S4 Active will have enhanced protection features to make it less vulnerable to the elements. The IP67 international standard dictates that it will be completely dustproof and be able withstand being submerged in up to one meter of water without incurring damage.
