MSM’s Sony Kix acquires Serie A and FA Cup rights for three years
Multi Screen Media’s (MSM) football dedicated channel Sony Kix has picked up the rights to two key football properties Serie A and FA Cup for a period of three years from 2015-16 to the 2017-18 season.
The broadcaster bagged the rights following an agreement with MP & Silva, the rights holder for the FA Cup and Serie A in the Indian subcontinent.
Sony Kix will get to telecast over 300 hours of live football action from the two premier competitions. Both the football properties were earlier held by Star Sports.
Incidentally, the FA Cup rights were earlier held by MSM’s English movie channel Sony Pix before it was snapped up by Star Sports.
The property later began airing on MSM’s sports channel Sony Six.
These acquisitions strengthen the current portfolio of MSM’s live football programming, which boasts of marquee properties such as UEFA Euro 2016, Qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2016, European Qualifiers for 2018 FIFA World Cup, 2018 FIFA World Cup and Copa America. Sony Kix and Sony Six business head Prasana Krishnan said, “We are witnessing a golden era of sports viewership transition in the country, and are proud to be offering two of the world’s most renowned events in football.
We have seen an overwhelming demand for football viewership in the country, and through these acquisitions, we wish to cater to that need and reiterate our commitment towards providing high quality sports content for our viewers.”
Starting 2 August, Sony Kix will broadcast the traditional curtain raiser to the English football season, the FA Community Shield, followed by FA Cup.
In addition to the entire selection of 59 matches in the season, the channel will broadcast select home friendly matches of the English Senior Men’s and England under-21 Team (“England Competitions”).
