Cricket’s famous on-field rivals Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne have teamed up to launch an independent Twenty20 cricket league called Cricket All Stars League involving former cricketers.
The duo plan to recruit 28 former cricketers for the league that include Australians Brett Lee, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Glenn McGrath, Englishmen Michael Vaughan and Andrew Flintoff, and South African Jacques Kallis, according to The Australian.
The former stars are being offered $US25,000 a match contracts with 15 Twenty20 games planned over a 42-month period. The report also says that a Dubai-based group had approached former players with a similar proposal.
The plan involves hosting a series of matches around the world starting with three US cities in September with New York, Los Angeles and Chicago being the frontrunners in this.
With a sizeable South Asian diaspora, the US has been on the radar of many cricket administrators including the hugely popular Indian Premier League (IPL).
