Discussion Tamilnadu Theatre Owners Condition Film Release on OTT

Well it is really hypothetical situation for all.

From theatre owners perspective they are mounting losses by paying the rents for the area, to the staff etc but they need to understand that we are not seeing normalcy coming to cinemas atleast for another 4 months, even if theatres open in June, people won't be going to watch movies because of corona virus scare and further many would have lost their jobs and in tier 2 and tier 3 cities people won't be able to afford watching movies and in return no big producer would bring up his film if he doesn't get a proper normal worldwide release.

From Producers perspective yes every movie in India is made keeping theatres in mind, but if they are not able to release already made movies in cinemas for another 6 months, it would mount them losses, and we all know many films are almost complete and if by any chance their prints get leaked, it would be a disaster for any big film, so even they are thinking to get on safe side by getting some profitable amount from OTT so that costs can be recovered.

OTT platforms also need to realize that they can't pay any amount of money to producers, as they might invest in a big movie like Sooryavanshi, Radhe, 83 but this might not lead to much subscriber addition as even on coming on OTT's next day movie would be coming on pirated websites and majorly in tier 2 and tier 3 cities and villages people would be streaming these on Telegram and other pirated apps on their phones rather than buying a Netflix/Prime subscription.

For ott platform no issues. Even now it is coming in pirated website if it is released in theatre. OTT platform is growing, if new films are released, their subscription will be doubled. People are going to buy since subscription comes to only 100 per month. In future if they bundle tv channels+ movies for 300/350 rupees pm, who will neglect this. This is best way to move forward, instead of spending in theatres.
