It has been learnt through reliable sources that there is a major player in the fray for the media rights of the Tamil Nadu Premier Twenty20 League. Star India has purchased the tender for bidding from the TNCA office and, given its resources and involvement in Indian cricket, should be a strong contender for telecasting the competition.

The TNCA, sources revealed to The Hindu, has also received a request from a potential bidder on extending the date of submission of tenders for the media rights.

Postponement
The date had been fixed on May 26 but now there is a demand to push this to the first week of June. This newspaper has learnt that TNCA is willing to postpone the dates for submission.

Rs. 7 crore, per year, is the base price for media rights.

Sun TV had also been in talks with the TNCA, but, so far, has not bought the tender.

The television, mobile and internet rights have been bundled together.

And the number of applicants for the eight franchises has risen to 17 from last week’s 15.

After the Olympics
The 17-day Twenty20 competition will be held after the conclusion of the Olympics Games.

The matches will be conducted in Chennai and Natham.
