Paris Motor Show: Suzuki Ignis unveiled; coming to India this festive season

Suzuki today unveiled its Ignis compact crossover at the Paris Motor Show. Suzuki pegs the vehicle as its new compact crossover for global markets while sales are expected to begin in Europe from 2017, India will be getting the Maruti Suzuki Ignis by the upcoming festive season.

The new Ignis looks more like an updated Jimny, but comes with four doors instead of two making it more practical than the latter. It features a distinctive look and features a practical design that sticks to the stuff we have comes to expect from Suzuki vehicles. There is plenty of room inside as well and the interiors get a clutter free look. The Ignis is light and Suzuki has used a high tensile steel to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle while maintaining rigidity.

Coming to the specifications, the Ignis showcased at the Paris Motor Show features a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine that has been designed keeping fuel economy in mind. Add the SVHS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) system and one can look forward to even better fuel efficiency. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

Out here in India, the Ignis will be the first crossover from Maruti Suzuki and will join the recently launched Vitara Brezza and Baleno, both of which have received a good consumer feedback. The car is expected to feature a 1.0 litre Boosterjet petrol engine capable of 110 hp with a 5-speed manual transmission. There is also a diesel variant which will be powered by Maruti’s popular 1.3 L DDiS engine along with the option of an automated manual transmission (AMT). No confirmation about the arrival of the diesel variant though.
