Sunrisers Hyderabad's victorious evening in Mohali was served a dampener with lead pacer Ashish Nehra facing another spell on the sidelines after being forced off the field due to an apparent calf tendon issue. The 37-year-old was escorted off the field by the team's medical team after pulling up in his delivery stride during the 14th over of Kings XI Punjab's innings.
This is Nehra's second injury concern of the season. A groin injury sustained in the season opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore had ruled the pacer out of four games. Upon return, the left-armer picked up three wickets each in Sunrisers' wins over Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants in Visakhapatnam.
David Warner, the Sunrisers skipper, said in his post-match conference that the bowler would be assessed by the medical team for the tendon issue. With 16 points from 12 games, Hyderabad top the Indian Premier League points table and have all but sealed qualification to the playoffs. However, Nehra's absence could dent the team's prospects in the decisive stage of the competition. Should Nehra be forced to miss games, the team can fall back on the services of young Punjab seamer Barinder Sran.
Hyderabad's two remaining league games are against Delhi Daredevils (May 20) and Kolkata Knight Riders (May 22).
